How to track pre-orders in Google Analytics
Shopify stores
How you need to use Purple Dot with Google Analytics depends on whether Purple Dot is integrated into your Shopify store as separate checkout or as a payment provider inside Shopify's checkout. See more here to learn about these two options.
As payment provider inside Shopify checkout
No extra setup is required. The same events/tracking that already works for your regular sales will work for pre-orders also.
As separate checkout
Once set up to do so, the Purple Dot checkout automatically sends events during checkout and when pre-orders are purchased.
Prerequisites
The GA4 Google tag active on the storefront (for example via the Google & YouTube Shopify app, Google Tag Manager, or a theme tag), with the
_gacookie being set for visitorsAdmin (Editor) access to the merchant’s Google Analytics property
Purple Dot must be connected to that same Google Analytics account
If you do not have these configured yet, please see the technical guide here.
Once everything is configured, you will see the same events as submitted to Google Analytics by Shopify for your regular, in-stock sales that go through Shopify's own checkout:
